McVeigh SIPs have been awarded the contract to supply Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) for the prefabricated wall of the Tesco Express Store in Hinckley. The express store, one of the first Tesco ‘Eco’ stores in the UK incorporates highly thermal efficient SIPs to form the walls on this sustainably sourced building.
150mm thick SIPs were prefabricated into large format panels, each the size of a structural bay were engineered and loaded into ‘toast rack’ stillages and delivered to site. Each panel was lifted from the stillage and placed into position as the timber structural frame progressed. This method of construction on a building site with restricted access meant that all the bulky components of the building were incorporated during erection and once the building occupied its footprint, all following trades were manageable in the restricted work space available.
Key Benefits
- Large format panels, prefabricated minimizing on site works.
- Thermally efficient SIPs with low air leakage.
- Positive Environmental credentials aiding with the BREEAM assessment.
- Easy integration of the timber based SIPs with a Glulam structural frame.
- UK Manufactured product keeping transport costs and environmental impact minimal.
